Round 1 recap – Thursday
Davis Thompson leads Rocket Mortgage Classic through the first round
A month ago, Thompson was playing in the NCAA D1 Championship ($ 6,800; 64.5 DKFP). He turned professional three weeks ago. Now he’s leading the Rocket Mortgage Classic after shooting a nine-under on Thursday. He played a flawless round, posting four birdies on the front nine and five birdies on the back. DraftKings Sportsbook got Thompson at +1,400 to win it all. In second place, Brandon Hagy ($ 6,200; 49.5 DKFP) and Tom Lewis ($ 7,200; 52.5 DKFP) are tied at seven under. Hagy had a clean round with seven birdies while Lewis did the same. DraftKings Sportsbook has Hagy at +4000 to win while Lewis is at +2500. – Stan Son
Bryson DeChambeau fights in the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic
DeChambeau ($ 11,400; 13.5 DKFP) is the highest ranking player in the $ 750K flop shot with 35.48%. The defending champion of this event was the prohibitive favorite of the launch week. Unfortunately, having shot a straight par 72, he’s now at +5000 on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the tournament. The front nine was brutal for DeChambeau, where he bogeyed the second and third holes. He made three birdies but then bogeyed the 9th hole. The back nine was clean, but the damage was done. Two golfers are represented in over 20% of the lineups: Jason Kokrak ($ 9,500; 27.5 DKFP) and Doc Redman ($ 7,900; 13.5 DKFP). Kokrak shot a three-under-69 and is +3500 to win all, while Redman shot a straight par 72. – Stan Son
The two most popular golfers in the $ 1M Pitch + Putt are busy at the Travelers Championships this week. Paul Casey ($ 9,900; 17 DKFP) had a whopping 28.04% stake but is eight strokes behind the lead at +1 after starting with four straight birdies to close the top nine and gave these all back immediately on the second nine with four consecutive bogeys. He added one more to 18. Abraham Ancer ($ 9,100; 10 DKFP) was the second most owned player and didn’t do much better. He traded four bogeys for two birdies and is +2, nine strokes on leading Kramer Hickok ($ 6,500; 58 DKFP) at -7. On the positive side for the chalk, Harris English ($ 8,200; 24 DKFP) ranks 15th. – Kenny Ducey
