United Wholesale Mortgage has partnered with the Detroit Pistons in a multi-year contract.
The Pontiac-based lender announced Thursday that it will be the team’s new official shirt sponsor and exclusive mortgage partner starting next season. The deal will see the UWM logo on the left front strap of the players’ jerseys – in the same place where the Flagstar Bank logo was until the partnership ended in May.
“Our relationship with UWM will provide an opportunity to engage fans in a variety of ways by working together on off-the-court initiatives that honor those who promote youth participation and excitement through basketball,” said Arn Tellem, Detroit vice chairman Pistons.
UWM did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but its CEO, Mat Ishbia, described the partnership as a win-win for both companies. Additionally, it will give the lender a new commitment to Detroit Pistons and NBA fans.
“UWM has been anchored in the metropolis of Detroit for over 35 years. Our corporate culture and success are linked in several ways to basketball and a team that works together towards a common goal, ”said Ishbia. “From the time I played basketball for Tom Izzo in Michigan to the way we use sports terminology, teamwork mentality, and relentless pursuit of improving ourselves every day, we are very fond of the Pistons- Organization connected. We look forward to working with the Pistons for the years to come as we both continue to grow and achieve monumental goals for our organizations and the community. “
Ishbia added that they intend to leverage the partnership with the Pistons and the NBA to “raise national awareness not just for UWM, but Mortgage broker across the country.”
As part of the partnership, UWM will also support several of the team’s community initiatives, including the Hoops for Troops, Military Hero of the Game, Home on Sundays and more programs.
