Your Guide to VA Benefits in 2021

– –

The United States government makes certain benefits available to veterans, but these benefits can sometimes be difficult to access. There are many factors to consider when applying for VA benefits, and having a helpful guide on navigating the tough waters is crucial to get the final nod of approval.

A wide range of programs and services are available to disabled veterans. To get the most out of them all, you need to understand the benefits to which you are entitled.

Health care

The Veterans Administration offers a full range of health services, from routine checkups to specialty services, mental health services, and specialty operations. There is more than 1,255 VA medical centers in the United States, each equipped to meet the needs of American veterans.

Veterans receive lifelong medical care, including prescription drugs, medical supplies, and nursing services. The VA provides senior care services, care support and housing for the veteran’s family members while the veteran receives acute medical care at VA hospitals.

Compensation and Pension

As a Veteran, you are entitled to monthly lifelong compensation in return for your time in the U.S. Forces. VA compensation includes disability benefits and special compensation for certain injuries. These funds are administered monthly and are available to all qualified veterans.

education and training

The Department of Veterans Affairs, formerly known as the Veteran’s Administration, offers post-service educational benefits that provide you with the skills and training you need to transition into civilian life. These include the GI Bill, which provides funding for university attendance, the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) available to Army Reserves members, and the Post-Vietnam Era Assistance Program. The VA also operates the Vows to end a program to assist veteran hero retraining.

Home loan

As a veteran, you are entitled to affordable home loans that you can use to resume the postal service. These loans include the Competitive Rate Standard Conventional Loan, the Reduced Interest Rate Refinance Loan (IRRRL), Disbursement Refinance Loans, the Native American Direct Loan (NADL), and several housing grants.

Veterans are given a variety of insurance products to protect themselves and their families. Veterans can benefit from Servicemembers Group Life Insurance, Veterans Group Life Insurance, Servicemembers Group Life Insurance, Traumatic Injury Protection, Veterans Disabled Veterans Life Insurance, and Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance.

Vocational training and employment

Several programs offer post-service training and employment to veterans looking to work and begin new careers. These include VetSuccess, a program to help veterans transition into college life, independent life programs, and ongoing training and counseling programs in a variety of areas.

Financial management support

Veterans are also eligible for assistance with money management issues, including financial planning, fiduciary services, mortgage loan services, and financial advice to beneficiaries.

Funeral services

The VA also provides reimbursement services for the surviving family members of the nation’s veterans. In addition, veterans are entitled to national cemeteries, inscribed headstones or tombstones, funeral allowances, a presidential memorial certificate, a funeral salute, and an American flag hanging over their coffin.

However, there are certain restrictions that dictate which veterans receive these awards. Some are only available to veterans killed on active duty or died of an injury sustained on active duty or during training.
